DESCRIPTION: APW - Hamilton, Grade 947 (marked), 23J, massive 18K gold HC recase with beautiful vermicelli and star engraving detail, bow with chain guards, gold cuvette, metal dial with Odd Fellows three link chain symbol at center, Runic style markings at hour positions of "Bert Jewett M.D.," SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, jeweled barrel arbor, ornate nickel damascene, s#163892. Gross weight of assembled watch 106.3 dwt (165.3 g). A rare top grade hunting case, the total production of the Grade 947 is 310 made, and this example is listed in the Hamilton ledger as having been sold to D.C. Percival & Co. on April 21st, 1917 following two previous sales that appear to have been canceled. This very distinctive example with unique dial and spectacular massive gold case was handled previously by our galleries in 2008. From the collection of Dr. Robert Restuccia.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, main plate with some scratches extending from right side balance wheel through space between third and fourth wheel jewel settings; dial with scattered spots; excellent hour and minute hands, seconds-hand is mostly overpainted in red; case shows hardly any wear, no dents or dings, excellent engraving detail, crown requires a very firm downward push to release latch to open front; tight bow, crown shows very light wear; good glass crystal.
